What Is an Equivalency Course?
A Community College Equivalency Course is a full course, equivalent to a community
college course, but taught privately by myself. The purpose is to prepare you to "test out"
of the course on your school's assessment test. This is the ideal situation for students who
were not able to enroll in math classes due to overcrowding, underenrollment, schedule
conflicts, etc. It is also appropriate for students who desire accelerated study. Equivalency
Courses will meet 2 - 3 hours / week, with homework but no in-class testing.
Will I Get College Credit For It?
Yes and no. Since I am just a tutor, not an accredited school, my course will not show up on
your transcript. However, you will get credit for the course (without a grade) when you
subsequently test out of the course at your school.
What Are the Advantages?
The opportunity to take a course that is not currently offered or does not fit your
schedule
A highly-rated instructor who specializes in teaching these very subjects
A focus on passing the assessment test, and / or preparing you for your next
course, according to your own pace and needs.
No pressure of grades or exams
Scheduling flexibility
Any Special Considerations?
You should be aware that an Equivalency Course with me will not count as credit toward the
enrollment or financial aid requirements at your regular community college.
How Much Does It Cost?
I charge my regular hourly rates; the fee is shared among students in the group.
What Courses Do You Offer?
Equivalency courses are offered for all lower-level community college courses, including
Basic Math
Pre-Algebra
Beginning - Intermediate Algebra
College Algebra
Pre-Calculus
Geometry
Finite Math
Introductory Statistics
My particular schedule each term will be determined by demand. Thus, for example, if I get
several requests for an Algebra class but only one or two for Statistics, then I will offer
Algebra but not Statistics for that term.
